THE BOBWIRE AND THE
POWER 25!
Hello friends. After a one-year
hiatus, yours truly is back to
give his thoughts on the world
of sports here for Mid America
Broadcasting. I hope you will
check back often, and I hope
you’ll join us for our fall sports
coverage starting in a couple of
weeks.
For the first time since the end
of the 2007 season, the Power
25 is back. A lot has happened
since then…and that will be
enough to write about that.
Anyhow…the Power 25 is
strictly an opinion piece by El
Poto…yours truly. I do some
research and then rank the top
25 teams in Indiana regardless
of class. If you disagree (which
I know you do already!), feel
free to write me at
bpotosky@midamericabroadca
sting.com.
This year will do the countdown
a little different. We’ll do two
teams a day starting with #25
and #24 today…so…the #25
team in the pre-season Power
25...

2A SEMI-STATE PREVIEW
2A NORTH
Rensselaer (11-2) at Fort Wayne Luers (8-5)
The Bombers broke through the regional level
last week with a 35-0 whitewash of Fairfield.
It was the first regional title for the Bombers.
This team is the epitome of ball control
consistently grinding out three and four year
runs to punish opposing defenses and keeping
offenses on the sidelines. Justin Bohanon and
Ben Ahler are two of the key components on
offense for the Bombers. On the other side of
the coin, Bishop Luers rallied for a wild 53-52
double-overtime thriller over Cass last week.
The Knights were 4-5 in the regular season,
but the schedule has prepared them for the
second season. Matt Lindsay’s club has given up
some big point totals on the season (26 points a
game), but they come to the semi-state as one
of the last four teams standing in 2A. Ken
Mullen has double digit touchdowns for the
Knights. This should be a battle of contrasts
at Luers Field and it could go down to the wire
again.
El Poto’s Pick: Luers 27-20
2A SOUTH
Paoli (13-0) at Monrovia (13-0)
Two teams that never played in the semi-state
before find themselves a game away from the
State Finals. The Monrovia Vulldogs pulled off
perhaps the most impressive win of Regional
week with a 20-15 win over Indianapolis
Ritter. Head coach Kevin Hutchens relies on a
option attack that churned out over 250 yards
in the win over Ritter. Austin Park has rushed
for over 1,400 yards with 21 TD’s on the
season. Meanwhile, Paoli is enjoying their best
season ever, going 13-0 and winning their first-
ever regional title. Former Jasper assistant
Brian Balsmeyer has done a great job in
building the Rams into one of the top 2A
programs in the state. Logan Laswell has been
solid at quarterback for the Rams, scoring the
game-winning TD in Paoli’s 14-7 win over
Evansville Mater Dei. Should be a good one in
the Indy area on Friday, but Monrovia’s win
over Ritter I feel gives them the momentum to
carry them to the State Finals.
El Poto’s Pick: Monrovia 14-121A SEMI-
STATE PREVIEW
1A NORTH
Lafayette Central Catholic (13-0) at Southern
Wells (11-2)
This year, the Lafayette Central Catholic
Knights have been a team of complete
domination. Eight shutouts, a dominating
offense led by QB Chris Mills and the Knights
have romped through the season thus far by
outscoring their opponents 634-29! Last week in
their 56-0 win over Culver, the Knights racked
up 460 yards of offense. Meanwhile, Southern
Wells is in the Semi-State for the second
straight year. Jacob Miller and Kyle Jones
each had two touchdowns in the Raiders’ 41-14
regional win over Knightstown. Like last year
however, the Raiders will have a daunting task.
Last year, it was Nick Zachary and the
Sheridan Blackhawks. This year it’s the high-
powered Knights attack. Unlike last year,
Southern Wells will be at home. Unfortunately,
that’s the only good part I see for SW. I like
the Knights to cruise this week to get to Lucas
Oil.
El Poto’s Pick: LCC 49-7
1A SOUTH
Fountain Central (13-0) at Clinton Central (9-4)
One team that hasn’t been to the semi-state in
a long time, and another who’s here for the
first time. Clinton Central advanced to their
first-ever semi-state by shutting out
Indianapolis Lutheran 14-0 last week. Head
coach Mike Quick used a defense that
intercepted four passes in the second half to
help pave the way to the Semi-State.
Meanwhile Fountain Central has advanced to
their first semi-state since their state title
year of 1983. The Mustangs advanced with a
21-7 win over Linton-Stockton thanks to Zach
Robertson scoring all three FC touchdowns last
week. What’s really interesting is that of the
four teams left in 1A…three of the teams are
within a 50-mile span of each other…and the
potential is there for an All-Hoosier Heartland
final should LCC and Clinton Central win. Looks
to be an interesting game, but in the end,
Fountain Central brings too much to the table,
and they will advance to the State Finals.
El Poto’s Pick: Fountain Central 27-13
